Dental Cleanings
While brushing and flossing is essential, a home-care dental routine is not all it takes for a healthy beautiful smile.
Benefits
-Fresher breath
- Preserves natural teeth
- Reduces chances of tooth decay
- Decreased risk of gum disease
What Can I Expect During My Dental Cleaning?
During your professional dental cleaning, your dentist and hygienist will remove any harmful plaque, tartar build-up, and unsightly surface stains from your teeth. All of this will help the aesthetics of your smile and put a stop to tooth decay, periodontal disease, and other oral health issues.
When your exam is completed, your hygienist will prepare work for a cleaning. The first order of business is to remove plaque and tartar buildup that can lead to gum disease. A scaling tool is used to scrape away plaque and tartar that is on your teeth and around the gumline.
After plaque removal is complete, the hygienist will brush your teeth. Unlike a standard toothbrush, a high-powered electric toothbrush is used to effectively clean and polish the teeth. You will have an option to use a flavor of your choosing—orange, strawberry, and bubblegum—to name a few. The toothpaste contains granular elements to remove any remaining plaque and tartar.
Your teeth will be professionally flossed to rid of all plaque and unwanted particles in between your teeth. After flossing is complete, your mouth will be rinsed. We recommend scheduling dental cleanings twice a year for an optimal smile!
What Can I Expect During My Dental Exam?
In addition to professional dental cleanings, preventative dental exams are also a necessary part of a healthy mouth and beautiful smile. During your preventative dental examination, your dentist and hygienist will:
- Evaluate your overall oral health.
- Check for any issues with your bite and jaw.
- Check existing tooth restorations.
- Review oral hygiene methods and habits.
- Assess your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancer.
- Take dental x-rays, if needed.
