Dental Implant Replacement
Missing teeth can cause a lot more problems than a gummy smile. Fortunately, dental technology makes natural and effective tooth replacements possible! Dental implant placement is a routine procedure that allows for permanent smile restoration.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a titanium post that our dentist places in your jawbone. It will then fuse to your jawbone for a sturdy structure that can support natural-colored crowns or other restorative dental appliances. Dental implants are completely safe and allow normal function, just like natural teeth! Our office uses the latest technology to provide you with a stress-free and comfortable experience.
Treatment
During your initial visit, we will perform a thorough exam analyzing your mouth and teeth. This way, we will inform you of the procedure, our method, and the benefits of getting dental implants. We will take impressions of your teeth in order to create replacement teeth that are custom-fitted to your actual mouth.
Before treatment, you can expect to be out under local or general anesthesia contingent on the nature of your condition. Your surgical specialist will place a titanium post into the bone socket of your missing tooth. Afterward, the post and the jawbone must bond together in a process called “osseointegration.” This process typically lasts for 6-12 weeks.
When the jawbone and the post attach together, you will come back to our office to get your actual tooth replacement. An abutment will be placed on top of the titanium post and fixated into place. A dental crown (replacement tooth) will be put on top.
Healing Period
In addition, we want you to love the success of your dental implant procedure! We highly recommend following these tips so you can recover from your surgery as quick as possible:
First Day
We advise biting down on gauze in order to prevent bleeding. As soon as your dental implants have been anchored, gauze will be placed directly onto the treated area. On the night of the surgery, you should brush your teeth and rinse the mouth with saltwater. It helps to deter blood and bacteria from building up.
Second and Third Day
Again, rinse your mouth with salt at least 2-3 times day. Swelling may be present on the second day. Do not sleep sideways and stay away from doing activities that could impact your mouth. On day three, you may notice signs that your diet has returned, and you should focus on eating soft foods so it is easier to swallow.
