Periodontics
If you want a healthy beautiful smile, taking care of your teeth isn’t enough. You need to take care of your gums as well. Periodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease (gum disease).
Treatment
In order to alleviate periodontal disease, there are an array of non-invasive and surgical techniques for optimal oral health.

Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing is the most common way to prevent gum disease. Plaque and tartar is removed by using a scaling instrument and a mirror to scrape away plaque buildup on the teeth and along the gum line.
Gum Grafting
If there is infected gum tissue, the tissue itself must be repaired. Gum tissue may be taking from the upper mouth (palate) to cut away the diseased tissue and replaced with brand new healthy tissue. Gum tissue may be taken from the patient’s own mouth or from gum tissue banks.

Laser-Assisted Periodontal Therapy
A laser emits energy strong enough to vaporize diseased tissue. It prevents inflammation by detecting the mouth’s natural water levels and its imbalance when inadequate tissue is detected. This option quickly heals blood vessels and you will experience minimal discomfort.
Arestin
Arestin are medically prescribed antibiotics that are placed into diseased gum tissue and gum pockets. It is the most non-invasive method of treatment and fights harmful bacteria causing periodontal disease.
