What Are Implant Dentures?
To say that an implant denture is a combination between a traditional denture and dental implants is no exaggeration. The gum-colored base and porcelain false teeth of a denture will be attached to a series of biocompatible implants hidden just below the gumline. Essentially, you’ll have a full, complete smile that looks and feels natural.
Technically, there are two types of implant dentures. You can learn more about each below, but rest assured, no matter which one you choose, your replacement teeth will stay firmly rooted in place whenever you wear them.
Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures
These implant dentures are not meant to be removed. You’ll brush and floss like you would with natural teeth, and won’t have to take out your denture at night.
Removable Implant Dentures
Also known as “snap-on dentures,” removable implant dentures are designed with a latching mechanism that allows you to take the denture portion of your restoration out at your convenience. You’ll remove the denture for daily cleanings, but can otherwise take care of them similarly to how you would a fixed implant denture.
The Implant Denture Process
Ther are a couple of steps to an implant denture restoration. Since Dr. Rodriguez has advanced implant training, we can streamline the process by performing the implant placement surgery in our own office. Here’s what that will look like:
- First, we’ll schedule a consultation to confirm the details of your treatment plan.
- Next, we’ll arrange for any necessary preliminary treatments, like bone grafting or gum disease therapy.
- At a later appointment, Dr. Rodriguez will surgically and strategically place the implants along your jawbone.
- Once the implants have fully fused with the bone, we’ll take impressions of your mouth and start crafting the denture base and teeth.
- As soon as we receive your custom denture back from the dental lab, we’ll attach it to your implants and send you on your way!
Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?
Most healthy adults with suitable jawbone mass are good candidates for implant dentures. We find, though, that this restoration is ideal for those with extensive tooth loss. Since the denture base provides a comprehensive replacement, it’s a very cost-effective way to benefit from dental implants.
Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants
Combining dentures with dental implants modernizes an age-old tooth replacement solution, allowing patients to enjoy:
- Improved stability. When attached to implant posts, the denture doesn’t slip or slide out of place.
- Superior comfort. Dental implants mimic natural tooth structure, resulting in a restoration that feels more natural.
- Increased bite power. Implants strengthen dentures, enabling you to eat the vast majority of foods.
- Priceless confidence. Implant dentures look just as natural as they feel, and will completely restore your grin, empowering you to smile without worries.
